The Brand Build is the second phase of the Cowbird branding process.

We incorporate insights from your Brand Audit and develop your new Brand DNA, verbal identity (brand story and core messaging framework) and visual identity (logos, color palettes, content templates). Through a series of guided workshops and iterative design rounds, we build a brand system that deeply resonates with your audience and supports your long-term business goals.

You'll leave with a comprehensive Brand Guide that captures your voice, your ethos and your approach—and a complete understanding of how your brand needs to show up in the world.

How it works step-by-step ➔ 

01 The Workshops

During live workshops, we dig deeper into what we learned during the Brand Audit, discussing your positioning, audiences and differentiators. We begin with who you are and what makes you different. We build from there.

02 Developing Your Story and Messaging

We begin by putting language on the table. Through deep conversation around your founder story and brand origins, we surface the ideas, beliefs and instincts that are already there and start shaping them into your Brand DNA (mission, vision, values, purpose, promise and UVP). Once the foundation is set, we translate it into real, usable messaging: a tagline, an H1, a brand bio and philosophy that sounds like you, connects with your audience and reflects your brand values.

03 Developing Your Visual Identity

Our visual identity process is iterative by design. We use moodboarding to explore visual tone, texture, color and typography and see where you gravitate. That instinctive reaction tells us more than any brief.

From there, we move into mockups and visual brand environments—real-world context that shows how your brand will live and breathe, not just how a logo looks on a white background.

Each round of feedback brings us closer to the details—refining the typography, dialing in the color palette, tightening the brandmarks. The result is a visual identity that feels considered at every level, from the boldest brand moment to the smallest design decision.

  • This is your internal north star. Your values, your beliefs, your personality, your position in the market, and what makes you one-of-one. This is the foundation your whole team works from. It holds the answer the question "is this on brand?" before anyone has to ask.

  • Your external narrative—fully developed, ready to deploy, and completely yours. Includes your brand story, tagline, elevator pitch, and key messages for different audiences. All of it rooted in the same story, flexible enough to work across contexts.

  • A complete logo system—primary logo, secondary variations, submarks—built to work across every application. Digital and print. Large and small. Color and black and white. Nothing generic. Nothing borrowed.

  • A considered, intentional color system that feels like your brand before anyone reads a word. Core colors and expanded palette if needed, with comprehensive guidance on usage and application.

  • The typographic system that carries your voice across every touchpoint—selected and paired with intention.

  • The guardrails for your visual world—photography style, graphic language, texture, pattern, illustration direction. The document that answers "what should our Instagram look like" before you've hired a social media manager.

  • How you sound. What words you use and which ones you never use. How your voice shifts across contexts—a fundraising email versus a product description versus a social caption—while still sounding unmistakably like you.

  • The comprehensive document, approximately 40-50 pages, that holds everything together. Designed to be handed to a new marketing hire, an outside designer, a PR firm, or a web developer, and have them immediately understand who you are and how to represent you.

  • A Canva document that shows you how to deploy your brand across social and digital channels—post templates, story formats, graphic layouts. These are samples and frameworks, not finished content. They're the bridge between your brand guide and your day-to-day output.

  • Yes. The Brand Audit is where we establish the foundation. As we move into building the brand, we use that foundation to inform every decision.

  • Typically four weeks from the completion of The Brand Audit, depending on scope and the complexity of your brand.

  • Very. The Brand Build is a collaboration, not a handoff. You'll be in regular working sessions with us throughout—reviewing, reacting, making decisions. We do our best work with clients who show up for the process. If you're looking for someone to disappear and return with a finished brand, we're probably not the right fit.

  • You'll have a complete brand system and the knowledge to use it. We’ll walk you through every deliverable and make sure you're set up to deploy your brand independently. From there, Brand Activation and ongoing Brand Support are available if you want to keep working together.

  • Yes! We're based in Brooklyn but work with clients across the US. The workshopping and review process translates well to video calls—though if you're in New York and want to work in person, we're always up for that.
